In 2020, the El Monte High School A Cappella Choir received a donation from the Ekstrom Foundation to help them to visit Honolulu. However, these plans had to be put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With things returning to normal in 2023, the choir was finally able to take the trip. While in Honolulu the choir had the opportunity to perform in the Choirs of America National Choral Festival at the Central Union Church. They also performed on Centerstage at the Ala Moana Center. For many members of the choir this trip was their first time away from home and they took full advantage of it. They visited Waikiki Beach, the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, saw the North Shore, and ate shaved ice at Matsumoto’s. The Ekstrom Foundation and Cardinal Paint have been longtime supporters of the choir and are proud to support them and their efforts.
